Composite Upgrades to be Added to Royal Navy Next-Gen Nuclear Submarines
Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites will develop new composite optronic mast fairings for the UK’s next generation Dreadnought class nuclear submarines. The contract to produce the new composite mast fairings was awarded to Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites by Thales in the UK. The project will support BAE Systems Submarines in the development of the royal navy’s new Dreadnought class submarines, which are expected to replace their current Vanguard class submarines. The new nuclear submarines are expected to go into service in the early 2030s. The new composite optronic mast fairings. will be developed according to the latest design and manufacture techniques. Cutting edge materials and in house production knowledge will also be employed in order to deliver the highest quality composite structures that can perform optimally in submarine environments. This latest project will build on the 25 year business relationship between Thales and Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites, as the latter has successfully delivered a variety of optronic mast fairings to Thales throughout their long partnership.
