New Composite Paves The Way for Antimicrobial Medical Implants
Researchers at Bath University developed a new ferroelectric composite material that has antimicrobial properties. The new composite is a promising step forward in the development of antimicrobial medical implants. All bio medical implants carry some level of risk due to surface bio-contaminants within the implant materials. These bio-contaminants such as E.coli can sometimes lead to infection which complicates patient outcomes and prolongs treatment. This is why this new ferroelectric composite is such a promising discovery. The revolutionary material came about thanks to ferroelectricity, a property found in certain polar materials that can generate electricity in response to a change in mechanical energy or temperature. The electrical charge leads to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which selectively eliminate bacteria. Even in cases of substantial E. coli contamination, the composite is able to completely eradicate the bacteria without outside intervention. Learn more here.

Revolutionary Indestructible Composite Will Hit Markets Soon
Revolutionary Indestructible Composite Will Hit Markets Soon
Nano technology innovator NAWA Technologies developed a virtually unbreakable composite material that could bring never before seen advancements to industries including aerospace, automotive, hydrogen storage, and various others. The indestructible material can provide an increase in impact damage tolerance of up to 900% and up to 30% weight reduction when compared to current composite materials. The composite material named “vertically aligned carbon nano tubes” or “VACNT” is NAWA’s latest composite advancement. The secret to the composite’s incredible strength lies in NAWA’s proprietary NAWAstitch technology which solves composites’ biggest fault; delamination or interlaminar cracking. NAWAstitch is a nano-material technology that acts like a nano-Velcro that prevents cracks from bridging across the interface of the composite. VACNT a product of this incredible technology not only offers unbreakable strength but also electrical conductivity and storage which makes its versatility nearly limitless. NAWA are excited to bring this revolutionary composite to market and they plan on exhibiting it as early as the end of this month at the international JEC World Conference in Paris. Learn more here.
