German UniFix Creates a Unique Holding System for Large SFRP Aircraft Components
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is a lightweight, sturdy material that is commonly used in manufacturing aircraft components. Parts like vertical tail flaps and landing flaps present manufacturing challenges due to their sheer size. In partnership with the Frauenhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials, Airbus Operations GmbH has developed a revolutionary mobile holding fixture capable of holding components up to 26 feet long. This fixture significantly reduces the manufacturing time of such components, allowing for various processes to be performed in tandem with preparatory work. While still new, this technology could prove useful outside the aeronautics industry. Read more here.
